SNMA Mentoring Program:
This is a mentor program between University of Minnesota medical students
and pre-medical students within the Twin Cities area. The goal is to provide
encouragement and support for underrepresented students of color in their
quest towards medicine via a relationship with a medical student and through
exposure to medical school classes and activities.
•
First Friday Program:
This program hosts invited interviewing minority medical school candidates
to visit the University of Minnesota Medical School. Information sessions
and activities for the interviewees are provided to help them through
the interviewing process, and if accepted, SNMA encourages these students
to matriculate at the University of Minnesota.

Regional and National SNMA Conferences:
The Twin Cities chapter of SNMA is very active in participating and hosting
national conferences. Our chapter annually attends both the regional and
national conferences with members holding national positions.
In June 2005, we successfully hosted the National Leadership Institute and Board
of Directors Meeting on our campus.

1st Annual Pre-medical Forum:
In January 2007, the University of Minnesota chapter of SNMA hosted
the 1st Annual Pre-medical Forum, where pre-medical students were able to
gain knowledge about applying to and being in medical school as
well as to make contacts.
•
SNMA Lecture Sessions:
Invites prestigious speakers to give presentations/lectures addressing issues important to
minority health, education, and disparities throughout the year. University
of Minnesota students, faculty and staff are advised to check their university
emails for invitations to SNMA lecture sessions.
•
Empowering Multicultural Students for Careers in Medicine
- For Prospective Students - an 8-week evening seminar series beginning September 26th.
Application deadline is September 13th.
•
Harambee: "Harambee: Pulling Together the Community and Medicine through the Arts"
show is to unite the surrounding community and the university with the medical school through
the healing power of the arts. This has been an annual event that SNMA has actively planned and
participated in along with AMSA and other AHC organizations since its creation in 2003.
•
MAPS:
The University of Minnesota chapter of SNMA works directly with the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students
(MAPS) and has several community outreach programs in which MAPS students are more than welcome to participate.
As a local chapter SNMA also seeks to create a close and sociable environment
for our members by hosting various activities and staying involved in
the community.
